Juice For Good fresh OJ vending machines roll out to new locations this Summer!
ForPurposeCo.™, the latest innovation arm of food rescue charity OzHarvest, is thrilled to launch, Juice For Good, an Australian-first vending machine that uses imperfect and beautifully blemished oranges and provides a delicious, healthy option compared to existing vending machine beverage offerings.
Nearly half of all Aussie-grown fruit and vegetables do not make it off the farm due to imperfect skin or size. That’s a lot of unloved oranges.
This exciting project enabled by ForPurposeCo. has given them a new home inside these slick vending machines! Now consumers can show these oranges love and turn them into a delicious, freshly squeezed, healthy drink, with 100% oranges and nothing else.
Since September, close to eight tonnes of imperfect oranges have already been consumed by members of the public from the first two machines. Now, more of these unique thirst-quenching Juice For Good vending machines will be popping up around Sydney sites just in time for Summer!
Some are creatively built into construction walls where ForPurposeCo. has literally breathed juicy new life into these areas with support from companies such as Lendlease and Dexus. The machines will make its first retail site appearances at Mirvac’s Birkenhead Point and The Cannery in Rosebery offering customers a refreshing dose of Vitamin C while they shop!
Supporting local Australian growers was a key focus area for this new social business. Orange Farmer Angelo Santangelo from Cornwallis Farm in NSW is pleased to see his oranges being used for good. “We have an orchard in Windsor with 1500 trees that we’ve been running continuously for 70 years. It was my father’s orchard and I took it on.”
“To grow oranges, it takes a lot of blood, sweat, tears, energy and love - so seeing them to go waste makes me feel very sad. The main reason why oranges go to waste is due to blemishes on the skin, or the size as they may be too small. However, the internal quality of the orange is perfect.”
“I feel very proud that my oranges are being used for a good purpose, rather than rotting away,” said Santangelo.
Even more special is that all profits go directly to OzHarvest to help feed people in need. So every cup sold will allow OzHarvest to deliver more impact to communities in need.
